Also, the best man should keep the keys to the car, make sure the groom's tux gets back to the rental place, ensure the groom is not overly active at the bar so he can drive safely and basically make sure the groom is where he belongs when he is needed. One of the biggest things we see at our reception hall is a groom who is MIA... The groom needs to keep track of him!

I agree with the early cutting! I help run a wedding event venue in Birmingham AL and we encourage the cutting early. The biggest problem with cutting it late is that the older people tend to leave early and they miss the cake cutting and the dessert. SO... cut it early, you spent a fortune on it, enjoy it!

The tradition of the groom unable to see the bride before the ceremony started with arranged marriages. It was too risky to allow the groom to see his bride until after the ceremony was complete. The groom might change his mind. This is also where the veil came from - to hide the bride's face. Not many people I know would want to stick to a tradition they don't know the meaning of, or don't agree with.
